I hope this message finds you well, safe, and in good spirits as we close the holiday season. As I look back on the fall term of 2024, I wanted to take one last opportunity to share some EGHighlights as your outgoing president.
This semester, we've had our fifth annual camping trip, made some wonderful society memories, and had a Professional Development trip to Chicago! Our Chicago Trip allowed us to connect with three fantastic companies including the JPMorgan Chase, Bain and Company, and Grainger. We hosted Global Bonanza this year with over 300 participants enjoying cultural foods, activities, and learning about student orgs. In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we hosted a book club where EGL students read the Mustang Miracle by Humberto G. Garcia and came together to discuss the themes depicted in the novel.
We had five EGLs in the top three places for Spotlight! this year. Second place was taken by Nestle Purina with Tori Caracciolo representing EGL. We also had an all-EGL team tie for third place — the project was AIP with Annelise Lemaire and Danny Colón — and they tied with the Conagra team that had our very own Thomas Adelman and Ben Collins. Absolutely inspiring seeing everyone’s hard work pay off from the summer! Thomas Adelman also took home the Tauber Alumni Scholarship to round out a great day for EGL.
As my last official act as President, I would like to sincerely thank all the wonderful alumni that make these events possible. The EGL experience would not be the same without your unwavering support, whether that be through attending the alumni dinner at the annual Chicago Trip event, contributions to the Alumni Fund for Global Leadership, or attending Topics in Leadership sessions for Connect Effect! As I pass the torch to the next President, I am eager to announce to all of you our incoming president, Max West. We are in more than capable hands. Do not hesitate to reach out at egl.president@umich.edu.
Thank you all again, it has been a privilege and an honor.
Best,
Danny
EGL’s Professional Development Chicago Trip a Success! EGL’s 2024 Professional Development Chicago Trip was a fantastic experience, with 54 students in attendance (a new record)! This annual trip provided opportunities to visit 3 companies (details below) and culminated in a memorable alumni dinner sponsored by the Tauber Institute for Global Operations. We extend our gratitude to the companies, alumni, and the Tauber Institute for their support in making this enriching learning and networking experience possible.
JPMorgan Chase
Our first stop was at JPMorgan Chase, where we enjoyed a light breakfast and an informative session on the firm’s Focused Analytic Solutions Team (FAST) team. The group explored career opportunities in finance and technology and received insights into the skills and innovations shaping the financial sector.
Grainger
Next, we visited Grainger, a leader in supply chain solutions and technology. Students split into two groups to attend sessions tailored to either Tech or Supply Chain. These included company presentations, a tour of their operations, and a networking lunch. The sessions provided a valuable perspective on solving real-world challenges with engineering expertise.
Bain & Company
The final company visit took us to Bain & Company, where students participated in a dynamic info session and Q&A. This session highlighted Bain’s consulting processes and opportunities to contribute to impactful client solutions. The discussion shed light on careers in management consulting and the attributes Bain values in its talent.
Alumni Dinner at Lou Malnati’s
To wrap up the trip, we hosted a dinner at Weber Grill Restaurant, where students mingled with alumni in a casual yet professional setting. This event facilitated rich conversations about career paths, shared experiences, and the diverse possibilities available to EGL graduates. Special thanks to the Tauber Institute for sponsoring this incredible evening!
This year’s trip once again showcased how an engineering degree combined with the EGL experience opens doors to diverse and impactful career paths. We look forward to next year’s journey!
On November 22nd, EGL proudly hosted the eighth annual Global Bonanza, and it was an incredible celebration of cultural diversity and community! The event featured interactive booths run by cultural student organizations, each offering unique experiences for attendees. Participants received a stamp on their “passport” after visiting the booths. Visiting at least 4 booths earned them a meal from one of our delicious local international restaurants: TK WU, Jamaican Jerk Pit, Earthen Jar, or Pita Pita.
This year, we held Global Bonanza in the newly opened Central Campus Classroom Building (CCCB), a fantastic new venue that enhanced the event in several ways. The location made it easier for cultural organizations to bring their materials, attracted more foot traffic, and improved accessibility for the broader University community.
Throughout the afternoon, the CCCB buzzed with energy, laughter, and the aromas of international cuisines. Excited students engaged with passionate representatives from cultural organizations, immersing themselves in a rich array of cultural traditions. Attendees had the chance to learn Persian dances, sample Caribbean snacks, and explore so much more.
Felix Liu, our outgoing Cultural Chair, reflects on the successful event with gratitude: "Organizing this event alongside our Developmental Vice President, Jack Naidrich, was an absolute joy, and Global Bonanza continues to be a cornerstone of EGL’s Global Education pillar: cherishing and amplifying the cultural diversity of the University of Michigan and beyond. A huge thank you goes out to all the EGL volunteers who worked tirelessly to bring this event to life. Special thanks to Dawn Wolf for her outstanding support in procuring the food and materials that made this event possible. We couldn’t have done it without her and the collective effort of everyone involved. Here's to celebrating diversity and making Global Bonanza a tradition that grows bigger and better every year!"
The December General Body Meeting (GBM) was an important event for our student society as we held elections for the new board. Students showcased impressive public speaking skills as they addressed a large audience of their peers with confidence. The long election process reflected our members' enthusiasm and dedication to EGL's growth. This high level of engagement demonstrates the vibrant community we've fostered and our shared commitment to enhancing the organization.
We're proud to announce our new 2025 EGL student board. Every candidate displayed exceptional qualities, making the selection process both challenging and inspiring. Congratulations to our newly elected board members – we look forward to your fresh perspectives and innovative initiatives. This election has set a positive tone for EGL's future, and we're excited to see how the new board will continue to improve our organization for all members!

Degrees: Computer Engineering/Robotics
What are your plans after graduation? I will be working for Nestle Purina PetCare as a Robotics Engineer.
What is one of your favorite EGL memories? The VA trips have been some of my favorite EGL memories. I have been to San Diego, Peru, and Thailand. All the trips were unique, but each one provided an equally amazing opportunity to bond with other EGLs, give my time to help a community, and have truly immersive cultural experiences.
What are you most looking forward to? I am looking forward to some post-grad travel plans!
How do you anticipate that EGL has prepared you for your career? EGL has allowed me to grow as a leader and develop many personal and professional skills that I anticipate will help me throughout my career. I have gained a global perspective, studied business fundamentals, all while enjoying the community that is EGL.
Do you have anything you’re especially proud of from your time here at Michigan? I am proud of my academic successes and my personal and professional growth. I accomplished more than I ever thought I could before becoming a student at Michigan. I am also proud of the relationships I have built and the friendships that I know will last forever.

Hello EGL Alumni!
As I write my final note for this year’s EGLink, I want to start by expressing what an honor it has been to serve as your Alumni Chair. I have treasured every interaction and relationship I have built with some of the most interesting and accomplished people I have ever met!
I am particularly proud of the strides we have made in bridging the gap between alumni and students through the Alumni Advisory Board. The ratification of our new charter has been a significant milestone, increasing responsibilities for board members and introducing the new role of Industry Chair.
As my last act as Alumni Chair, I do have some last requests. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, maintaining alumni contact has become more challenging as the honors staff has lost alumni documentation and tracking. Stacie Edington and Dawn Wolf will be sending out an alumni census which you should be on the lookout for. This will be important for communicating alumni events and reupdating our alumni map. Additionally, with our revitalized Alumni Advisory Board, we are looking for new members with a fresh new perspective. Whether you would like to be just a general member or fill in one of the vacant geographic roles in the New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Texas areas, please email egl.alumni.chair@umich.edu!
I am eager to see what our reinvigorated Alumni Advisory Board will achieve under the leadership of our incoming Alumni Chair — Reese Liebman, a current Senior studying Computer Science. I am confident that under Reese's guidance, we will continue to build on our successes and create even more opportunities for meaningful connections between alumni and students.
Although my role is changing, you won't be able to get rid of me that easily! I look forward to continued interactions with you as the External Vice President. Your ongoing support and engagement are invaluable and deeply appreciated.
Best,
Justin
What is the Alumni Advisory Board?
The EGL Student Society encourages our alumni to remain actively engaged with the EGL community by advising current students and expanding the off-campus EGL network globally. To bolster the connections within the EGL alumni community, the Alumni Advisory Board (AAB) has redrafted its charter. This new version places a stronger emphasis on fostering both alumni-to-alumni and alumni-to-student relationships. Among the many updates, we have introduced a new position to better serve our community.
