Whether through time, mentorship, storytelling, or financial support, alumni play a critical role in shaping the next generation of EGL leaders.
EGL alumni bring invaluable experience, perspective, and community to the program. Giving back doesn’t just strengthen EGL—it deepens your connection to a network of leaders who share your values, your training, and your commitment to engineering, business, and global leadership.
There are many meaningful ways to support current students and help keep the EGL community thriving.
TiL Connect Effect Alumni Networking Pod
Alumni mentorship is one of the most impactful forms of support.
Opportunities include:
TiL Connect Effect, where alumni speak with TiL 1 students about relationship-building, networking, and early leadership development
Hosting 1:1 coffee chats (virtual or in-person)
Supporting students during recruiting cycles
Reviewing resumes or facilitating mock interviews
Offering insights on workplace culture, industry trends, or early-career navigation
Many alumni choose to stay informally connected with mentees for years, building relationships that last well beyond graduation.
Alumni frequently return to share their experiences in:
Topics in Leadership (TiL 1, 2, and 3)
Life Launch and career navigation sessions
Alumni panels at GBMs or special events
Backpack to Briefcase sessions
Your story — whether technical, cultural, entrepreneurial, or personal — helps students understand the many paths an EGL education can lead to.
Working Abroad Alumni Panel
The Alumni Advisory Board plays a central role in connecting alumni perspectives with student needs and program direction.
AAB members:
Provide strategic advice on program initiatives
Support professional development and corporate partnerships
Help guide alumni engagement activities
Strengthen continuity between boards, students, and EGL leadership
Alumni who want a deeper, more sustained form of involvement are encouraged to express interest in joining the AAB.
Alumni play a key role in supporting the Volunteer Abroad (VA) Program:
Contributing to travel scholarships
Following and sharing student blogs and trip videos
Helping identify or connect future site partnerships
For many alumni, the VA Program remains one of their most meaningful EGL experiences and supporting it ensures future students can participate regardless of cost.
Financial contributions directly enhance the EGL experience by supporting:
Leadership development programming (TiL 1, 2, and 3)
Chicago Professional Development Trip costs
Volunteer Abroad Program funding and accessibility
Community service initiatives
Cultural programming and Global Bonanza
General student support for EGL events and community-building

Each year, EGL runs a Fall Alumni Campaign — from November through the end of the year — which includes Giving Tuesday. Contributions during this period help set the foundation for student programming in the year ahead.
Every gift, regardless of size, meaningfully supports the next generation of EGL students.
