Engineering Global Leadership (EGL) is for students who want more than a traditional engineering path. EGL combines engineering, business, culture, and leadership into a tight-knit community that supports you academically, professionally, and personally.
Students join EGL to:
Gain a business perspective alongside technical depth
Build global awareness through coursework and travel
Develop leadership and communication skills early
Be part of a supportive, adventurous community
Graduate with a fifth-year Master’s degree
I wanted to shift my career path from a less technical role in biomedical engineering, to a Project Management role. I also found the people in the community very inviting, and unique. Also, the opportunity to take upper level business classes was exciting as well. Lastly, I knew and continue to know that I am not in a rush to start my career, so I am excited to spend another year with my friends.

I joined EGL because all of the professional interests aligned with what I wanted to do in terms of international job opportunities and a business focus. I also joined because I loved the opportunity to Volunteer Abroad each summer. Finally, the culture and community within EGL seemed really adventurous and welcoming, and I wanted to be surrounded by people like that.

I joined EGL because it seemed like the perfect academic program for me to combine my interests in Spanish, Business, and Engineering. Initially, I was set on doing the Spanish/Ross minor, but realized I could achieve the same amount of credits in each simply by joining EGL and doing the International Minor + Ross Focus Area. I thought the idea of being in the program sounded very cool, and would give me opportunities I would otherwise not have via access to the older students, the alumni, and the professional development resources.

I joined EGL due to the vast opportunities in terms of business acumen, global education, and the culmination of my studies in a fifth year masters program. I wanted to expand my area of knowledge beyond mechanical engineering and explore these disciplines in order to determine my future career path. I was also intrigued by the professional networking and culture of EGL. Everyone supports and encourages each other to succeed and I knew that was an environment I wanted to be involved in.

“The thing that stands out to me the most about the people in EGL is how motivated they are in every aspect of their lives. EGL’s always push themselves to try new things, travel to new places, and be as well rounded as they can be. The level of support in this community is unmatched. If you ever want to try something new, you’re never doing it alone because someone is always ready to dive in with you.

My favorite EGL memory was VA Ecuador! I learned a lot about Ecuadorian culture, the cloud forest ecosystem, and my EGL friends on the trip!
Another one of my favorite memories was Pride Night! We got to make fun crafts, share stories, and learn about the LGBTQ+ community! EGCraft nights are always some of my favorite events :)

My favorite EGL memory was VA Thailand 2025! Through this trip, I discovered how meaningful travel can be when it’s rooted in service and immersion. It was also an incredible way to start to build a sense of community within EGL as a newly admitted member. 5 stars!
